Frequently asked questions

No. The US cup is 236.6 ml (US legal cup 240 ml), while the old imperial cup is 284 ml and the Australian metric cup is 250 ml. Most modern recipes use US cups; this converter assumes US measures.

The US customary tablespoon is 14.79 ml; many cookbooks round to 15 ml. The difference is under 1.5% — irrelevant for home baking, but we use the precise value so the maths stays consistent.
