Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026. BakeScale is designed to be privacy-friendly: conversions run entirely in your browser and we do not operate a user database.
1. Who we are
BakeScale (this website, "we", "us") is a free baking and cooking unit converter suite. The site is operated by an independent developer. You can contact us at zjp133@outlook.com.
2. Data we collect
We do not collect personal data through the tools. All conversions happen locally in your browser. The tools never send your numbers, ingredient choices or recipe text to any server.
The only data stored is kept in your browser's local storage on your own device:
- Language preference (English or 中文) so the site remembers your choice.
- Cookie consent choice, so we do not show the consent banner repeatedly.
- Saved favourites (conversions and articles you hearted), stored locally so you can reopen them later.
None of these are transmitted to us. Clearing your browser's site data removes them permanently.
3. Cookies
BakeScale itself uses only the local storage described above and does not set advertising cookies today. If we enable advertising in the future, third-party advertising partners — including Google and its partners — may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and may use data such as your ad preferences.
When advertising is enabled, Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also learn about the cookies Google uses at How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites.
Because this site does not currently display advertising, the cookie consent banner you see is preparing the site for compliant ad serving later. Your choice is stored locally and never sent to us.
4. Google AdSense
This site is designed to be eligible for the Google AdSense programme. If and when ad units are enabled, AdSense (a service provided by Google Ireland Limited or Google LLC, as applicable) may place cookies, use web beacons, and collect usage data to serve and measure advertisements. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this website or other websites. AdSense may use the advertising ID to build a profile of your interests.
You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page. Your browser settings can also block or delete cookies.
5. Analytics and logs
We may use privacy-respecting, cookieless analytics to understand aggregate traffic (for example, which pages are viewed). We do not use such tools to identify individual visitors, and we do not combine analytics data with advertising data unless a compliant mechanism is in place.
Like most websites, our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (IP address, browser type, requested pages, timestamps) for security and reliability purposes. These logs are retained briefly and are not used to profile you.
6. Legal bases (GDPR / UK GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process any limited personal data as follows:
- Consent — for cookies and advertising-related processing, where applicable.
- Legitimate interests — for keeping the site secure, preventing abuse, and understanding aggregate traffic.
7. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights under the GDPR, UK GDPR or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), including the right to:
- Access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you;
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Data portability;
- Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we do not sell or share personal information);
- Withdraw consent at any time (for example by blocking cookies in your browser).
Because we store no personal data on our servers, most of these rights are exercised simply by clearing your browser's local storage. To make any request or ask questions, email zjp133@outlook.com.
8. Children
BakeScale is a general audience site and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your jurisdiction). The tools require no account and collect no information from any user.
9. External links
This site may link to external websites (for example, Google's advertising settings). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites — please read their privacy policies.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as features and advertising change. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be highlighted on this page.
